讲座题目：Stakeholder Relationships and Enterprise Risk Management Adoption: Evidence from S&P 500 Firms

　　讲座主要内容：Managing corporate risks with an integrated, holistic approach has gained popularity over the past two decades, and about 50 percent of the Standard & Poor’s (S&P) 500 firms have an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program by 2016. This research examines the determinants of ERM adoption decisions of all firms listed in the S&P 500 index, excluding financial services firms and utility firms. We find that firms, which invest in long-term relationships with their workforce by providing better employee benefits, and firms which rely more on recent long-term debt issuances are more likely to adopt ERM. These results support the view that firms’ relationships with their stakeholders are a major determinant of firms’ ERM adoption decisions.

　　主讲人介绍：Dr. Jianren Xu joined the Mihaylo College at California State University, Fullerton as an Assistant Professor of Finance in 2014. His research interests include corporate risk management, insurance markets, earnings management, and behavioral finance. He had previously worked in the insurance industry for 3 years. He holds the designation of ARM (Associate in Risk Management) and passed two actuarial exams (P and FM). Dr. Xu earned his Ph.D. with a major in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) and a minor in Finance in 2014 from the University of Georgia. He currently has two papers forthcoming and a third paper receiving the second revise and resubmit at the Journal of Risk and Insurance. He also published in other journals. Dr. Xu won the Best Paper Awards from the Southwest Finance Association and the Western Risk and Insurance Association. He has also received several research grantsawards and teaching awards. He is now a board member at the Western Risk and Insurance Association.”
