Culture and family firms
In this study, we focus on a specific cultural dimension, i.e., collectivistic vs. individualistic world view, and examine the effects of the culture backgrounds on family business decisions. Using a sample of 1103 family firms listed in China, we find that founders from regions with stronger collectivistic culture are more likely to collaborate with family managers, retain more ownership within the family, and share ownership with family members. In additional, we find that the influence of culture acquired from the birthplace dominates the influence of culture from the working place and the effect of collectivistic culture dominates the influence of the Confucian culture.
Plough and female participation in family firms
In the second study, we investigate plough_culture's impact on the female participation in family business. Plough requires more power and strength to handle, thus female's contribution to framing is little in plogh positive regions. We find, in plough negative regions, there is more female's involvement in management. In additional, we also find, relative to brothers, more sisters are engaged as family managers in plough negative regions.
