讲座题目：《中国是全球经济增长的引擎吗?--基于公司投资的视角》

讲座提要：随着中国成为世界最大的贸易国，如何全面评价中国对全球经济的影响是一个极其重要但尚未解决的问题。本文以全球39个主要国家或地区的上市公司为样本，考察了中国进口对这些公司投资水平的影响。研究结果表明，中国对各国家或地区的进口强度越高，相应当地企业的投资水平也越高。通过引入工具变量和基于中国加入WTO的自然实验，上述结果仍然稳健，这意味着中国进口与相应出口国企业投资之间存在因果关系。通过一系列异质性检验，本文还发现：（1）相对于北美和欧洲，亚洲地区的企业投资受到中国进口的影响最大；（2）对企业投资的促进作用主要来自中间品和最终消费品进口，而不是资本品进口；（3）中国进口对企业投资的促进作用还可以通过供应链产生溢出效应，即进口下游产品亦可提高上游企业的投资水平。影响机制方面，本文发现中国进口能缓解企业的融资约束以及经济不确定性对企业投资的负向影响。本文从公司投资视角评价了中国进口对全球经济的影响。

主讲人简介：鲁晓东，中山大学岭南学院经济学系副主任，副教授，中山大学转型与开放经济研究所研究员。2008年毕业于南开大学，获经济学博士学位。主要研究领域为国际贸易、国际金融与国际投资。迄今已在《经济研究》、《管理世界》《经济学季刊》、《世界经济》、《金融研究》、《Frontier of Economics in China》等中英文期刊发表学术论文30余篇。先后主持国家自然科学基金、国家社会科学基金等各类课题12项。

讲座题目：Innovation performance of new foreign subsidiaries: How to mitigate political uncertainty in an emerging market?

讲座提要：The large body of international entrepreneurship (IE) literatures mainly focuses upon the success of early internationalization period. How new ventures sustain innovation advantage after entry into an emerging market with high uncertainty is an important but unresolved question. We address this issue by examining the impact of political uncertainty in China on the innovation performance of new foreign subsidiaries. Building on the perspective of information asymmetry, we analyze three sources of information asymmetry for new foreign subsidiaries when political uncertainty takes place (Liability of foreignness and newness, Unpredictability of politician and Uncertainty of policy) and argue that the ambiguity with regard to policy information is the major cause of political uncertainty to lower its incentive to innovate and thus depress innovation performance. Based on this, we predict that information searching is a possible way to mitigate the negative consequences of political uncertainty as it alleviates information asymmetry. Using data from Annual Census on Industrial Enterprises (ACIE) Database in China and detailed data of hand-collected Chinese municipal politician turnovers, we find strong and robust evidences that innovation performance of new foreign subsidiaries is negatively associated with political uncertainty. As expected, our results show that two strategies of information searching dampen the negative effect of political uncertainty on innovation performance: (1) forming adaptive expectations of political uncertainty via searching for local historical information (2) investing in political information access via connections established with host government. This paper identifies key strategic measures that sustain and develop the post-entry innovation of international start-ups in an emerging market.

主讲人简介：赵奇伟，betway必威副教授、硕士生导师，2008年毕业于南开大学国际经济研究所，获经济学博士学位，主要研究方向跨国公司与中国经济发展，新兴市场跨国企业成长战略等。基于上述方向，他先后在《经济学季刊》、《世界经济》、《中国工业经济》、《数量经济技术经济研究》、《金融研究》、《经济学动态》等期刊发表论文若干篇。主持国家自然科学基金面上项目、国家自然科学基金青年项目、教育部人文社科青年项目和规划项目等国家及省部级课题的研究。
